Closely related to the herb marjoram, oregano is high in antioxidant activity, due to the high content of phenolic acids and flavonoids, including thymol and carvacrol.

- Mild stomach upset may occur with oregano oil use
- Oil of oregano may reduce the absorption of iron from iron supplements, so take oregano oil at least 2 hours before or after consuming iron supplements
- Avoid taking oil of oregano internally if iron-deficiency anemia is present as it may interfere with iron absorption from food and worsen the condition
